Aberdeen is two markets that share one name. Aberdeen City Council runs the city itself, from Torry and Ferryhill to Rosemount, the West End, Old Aberdeen, Bridge of Don, Dyce, Cults and Bieldside. Aberdeenshire Council covers the towns beyond, including Westhill, Portlethen, Ellon, Inverurie and Stonehaven.
The housing changes as you move out. Grey granite tenements line the streets off Union Street, granite villas sit along the Deeside side of the city, and newer commuter estates fill Westhill and Portlethen.
Much of the local economy is tied to North Sea oil and gas and the energy transition, so households can be on rota work and decide things at odd hours.
Winters are cold, windy and dark, and the haar off the North Sea can sit over the city for days. Rightmove, Zoopla and OnTheMarket hold most home browsing, and many sales still run through solicitor estate agents and the local solicitor property centre.
Agents follow Scottish estate agent rules, letting agents sit on the Scottish Letting Agent Register, heating engineers hold Gas Safe and electricians show their registration.
