Google may treat Stoke-on-Trent as one city, but the people who live there do not. The six towns, Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Fenton and Longton, run in a line from north to south, and each keeps its own name, high street and loyalties.
Hanley is the main shopping centre, Trentham sits to the south, and Newcastle-under-Lyme is a separate borough to the west with its own town centre. People add those names to the job they want, so ranking for the bare city name seldom makes the phone ring.
Housing is Potteries terraces, inter-war semis and newer estates around Trentham, and each produces different repair, letting and cleaning searches. Student lets around Staffordshire University and Keele add another set.
Rightmove, Zoopla and OnTheMarket own the searches for homes to buy or rent, so property firms do better with landlord and service searches. Agents show redress scheme membership, heating engineers show Gas Safe and electricians show NICEIC or NAPIT.
VAT at 20 per cent is added to an agency invoice.
