Brighton and Hove is a long, thin city squeezed between the Downs and the sea. The coast road runs from Rottingdean through Kemptown, central Brighton and Hove to Portslade and Shoreham, then on to Worthing.
Lewes is inland in East Sussex and Worthing is in West Sussex, so each has its own council and its own customers. The homes change quickly too.
Regency terraces and seafront flats, many of them converted and leasehold, give way to suburban houses in Hollingbury, Patcham and Goring. In the centre, permit parking makes every van visit cost more, so a small job can take more time than it pays.
Rightmove, Zoopla and OnTheMarket own the searches from people browsing homes to buy or rent. That leaves independent agents to win landlords and sellers in other ways. Estate agents need redress scheme membership, heating engineers hold Gas Safe registration and electricians work to Part P.
