AI Overview Checker
Check whether one page gives a clear answer with a useful structure. It is a free content check, not a live Google tracker.
Enter one public page address. The checker reads the page's code and looks for what makes an answer easy to find: question headings, an opening answer, lists and FAQ markup. It then suggests what to fix. It does not search Google, see which pages Google cites or predict whether yours will be.
Key takeaways
- check_circle A content check. It does not show your AI Overview ranking or citations.
- check_circle A high score does not mean Google has indexed your page or will show it.
- check_circle Fix clarity and accuracy first, and check each finding by hand.
- check_circle Google does not require special AI markup, FAQ markup or an llms.txt file.
What this AI Overview checker does
Enter one public page address. The checker reads the page's code and looks for what makes an answer easy to find: question headings, an opening answer, lists and FAQ markup. It then suggests what to fix. It does not search Google, see which pages Google cites or predict whether yours will be.
AI Overviews are the short AI-written answers Google shows above some results, with links to the pages it used. To be linked, a page must be indexed by Google and allowed to show a snippet. Good formatting alone cannot guarantee it.
Use the findings to improve the page
A clear, accurate answer with real evidence helps a buyer decide whether to trust you. Use the report as an editing aid. Then look at relevant visits and enquiries, not at the score itself.
How to use this tool
- 1
Choose one public page
Enter the full address of the page. The checker downloads the page's code. It does not log in, open the page in a full browser or search Google.
- 2
Read the findings
Each check comes with a short explanation. Look at the real page before you treat a missing item as a problem.
- 3
Make one useful change
Improve the answer, the proof or the layout for your reader. Then check in Google Search Console that the page is indexed, and run the checker again.
What this tool checks
Question-style headings
Counts second-level headings (H2s) written as questions. They can help readers scan the page, but Google does not require any number of them.
An early direct answer
Looks near the top of the page for text that answers the main question. It cannot judge the first screen on a phone or tell whether the answer is right.
Lists
Finds bulleted and numbered lists. Use a list when the content really is a set of steps or items. A list does not make a page eligible.
FAQ markup
Reports whether the page has FAQ markup, which is code that labels questions and answers. It does not check that the code matches what visitors see. Google does not require FAQ markup for AI Overviews.

What you need to check separately

How to check an AI Overview yourself
AI Overview checkers come in two kinds. Some track search results for a list of keywords. Others, like this one, read your page. This AI Overview checker cannot see Google's results, so the manual check below is the only way to see a live citation for yourself. It takes a few minutes per query.
1. Search the query in the right country
Type the question a buyer would ask, word for word. Search from the country you sell in, because AI Overviews change by location. A private window keeps your own history out of it.
2. See whether an AI Overview shows
Look at the top of the results. If there is no AI Overview, there is nothing to cite for that query today. Check again another day, because they come and go.
3. Note which links it cites
Write down the pages the overview links to, with the date. Note whether your site is one of them, and which competitors are.
4. Check your own page here
Enter your URL in this AI Overview checking tool. It reads the HTML and shows whether the answer is easy to find: an early answer, clear headings and lists. Then compare your page with the pages that were cited.
Related check for AI assistants
For ChatGPT and other AI assistants, use the LLM Citation Checker at /free-tools/llm-citation-checker/. It looks at whether your sentences are easy to quote: plain facts, numbers and dates, and claims with proof next to them.

Example finding and next step
Finding: the answer does not appear near the top.
Next step: state the answer first, then the sales pitch.
Then: add a source or a practical example. This shows how to read a check. It is not a real result or a Google citation. Make sure the answer is accurate and complete for your reader.
thumb_down Weak examples
A wrong way to read the score
100/100 means Google will cite this page. The tool cannot see Google's index, the live results or whether an AI Overview will appear for a search.
